Defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening was only Borussia Mönchengladbach's fourth home defeat of the season and despite the disappointment of the loss, Gladbach defender Oscar Wendt doesn't think the result will affect the team negatively.

"I don't think this means anything - it's one game," Wendt told DW afterwards. "We have 16 games left in the season and we came back after losing our first five games of the season pretty well, so I think we can bounce back after one. Today wasn't fantastic, but we have 16 more games to get there."

Avoidable defeat

Dortmund's win came through three goals which were reminiscent of years gone by under former head coach Jürgen Klopp, with devastating counterattacks cutting open the home side's defense. Wendt looked a frustrated figure when talking about how the game was lost.

"We lost the ball too often in dangerous parts of the pitch and we left a lot of space for Dortmund to play their counterattacks," Wendt explained.

"They have too much quality up front, and a lot of speed. I would say the last two goals were how not to lose the ball. But that happens sometimes. Everyone makes mistakes."

A clear goal

Looking ahead, a top-four finish is still well within reach for the Foals, who still occupy a Champions League spot despite defeat to Dortmund. There's only one thing on the players' minds when thinking about achievements to come at the end of the season.

"Of course we're still thinking about the Champions League," Wendt said. "I think we're one of the teams that deserves to be at the top and we'll try everything to stay there."
