The ever growing world population consumes more than 100 million tons of fish annually. Fish stocks in rivers, lakes and seas have fallen off dramatically. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says that 52 % of all edible fish populations have already been pushed to the brink of extinction.

The ocean fish populations are projected to die out completely by mid-century unless far more environmentally friendly fishing methods are universally adopted.
