We produce huge amounts of food which never gets eaten. According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, a third of the world's food production ends up going to waste.

In industrialized nations, the range of foods on offer just keeps growing. Many fruits and vegetables must conform to specific norms - ones that don't are rejected and usually wind up in the trash. Consumers also purchase far more food than they actually need. On average, each European throws away 100 kilos of food a year.
