Globalised Labor - Why do we still need trade unions?

The mine disaster in Turkey has once more thrown up the question of international standards. Whether in mining or in other fields - how can safety standards be made binding? The ILO is currently discussing the situation in Geneva.

International working conditions are also of concern to the young trade unionists from around the world who just met in Berlin for the International Trade Union World Confederation World Congress. Just under 170 million people belong to the International Trade Union Confederation. From low wages to youth unemployment to the soccer World Cup in Qatar, trade unionists are addressing topical global issues. We met three young trade unionists from the Philippines, Ghana and Germany at the congress in Berlin.
