Greek fire victims still waiting for government aid

Victims of this past summer's fires on the Greek island of Chios are still waiting for aid and compensation. They say the Greek government has been slow to respond.

Northern Chios was devastated by wildfires  in 2025, leaving residents angry and abandoned. Farmer Dimitris Mallas lost everything, while hotel owner Antigoni Maestrali faces delays in rebuilding. Legal action is underway, but EU decisions may take years. Meanwhile, the community struggles to recover — largely without state support.
