Greek police on Monday raided the hideout of far-left terrorist group Revolutionary Struggle, which has been linked to a 2007 rocket attack on the US embassy in Athens.

Anti-terrorist police evacuated an entire apartment building in the central Athens suburb of Kypseli to search the hideout, which had been rented by a man using a fake ID.

There, police found at least eight rocket launchers, dozens of submachine guns and more than 120,000 euros (161,800 dollars) worth of ammunition. Officials say they also found enough ammonium nitrate explosives to blow up a six-storey building.

Five men and one woman from the group have been arrested this month on charges of carrying out explosions and attempted homicide. If convicted, they could face up to 25 years in prison.

Since emerging in 2003, Revolutionary Struggle has bombed banks and the Athens Stock Exchange. The organization is deemed by authorities to be Greece's most dangerous far-left group and is on a European Union terrorist watch list.
