In the wake of the nuclear disaster in Japan, the topic of energy has been at the top of the world agenda. In Germany, several regions have long been working on converting to alternative energy models. The city of Freiburg is the forerunner in the green revolution.

The city has had a green mayor for some time, it boasts the largest number of solar-paneled roofs in Germany, and some of the most important solar panel factories are located here. Julia Henrichmann paid a visit to Germany's green energy showcase.
