Growing concern in Germany's Jewish communities

Since Israel began targeting Gaza following Hamas' October 7 terror attacks, Germany has seen a rise in antisemitism. Heightened security is in place but members of the Jewish community say they are still afraid.

After the militant Islamist group Hamas launched terror attacks targeting Israeli civilians on October 7, Israel retaliated with airstrikes on Hamas-ruled Gaza. Since then, thousands of civilians on both sides have lost their lives.

As a result, there's been a rise of antisemitic vandalism and violence around the globe, with threats or attempted attacks on Israeli embassies, synagogues as well as Jewish-owned stores and homes. In Germany, politicians have sharply condemned the attacks. Members of Jewish communities across the country are concerned.
