The leaders of the two main Palestinian political factions, Fatah and Hamas, have formally endorsed a reconciliation plan. The deal, brokered by Egypt, would create a joint interim government, and lay the groundwork for presidential- and parliamentary elections within a year. The agreement aims to end a four-year-long split between Fatah, which governs the West Bank, and Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.
