Wolfsburg 3 Hamburg 0
Hamburg have been the masters of the two goal comeback this season, having done it to win or draw three times so far. But the fourth occasion was not a charm against the Wolves, who were spotted even a three goal lead.
Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath’s squad were in top form from the start and within a half hour, built up the three-goal cushion. Ashkan Dejagah, Alexander Madlung and Grafite the goalscorers as Hamburg concede their first loss of the young campaign. They rest on ten points with Hoffenheim who routed Dortmund at home 4-1.
Hoffenheim 4 Borussia Dortmund 1
Certainly the nicest surprise so far has been Hoffenheim and their striker Vedad Ibesivic. The Bosnian forward got a brace against outmatched Dortmund to raise his season total to six goals. Compatriot Sejad Salihovic scored between Ibesivic’s bookends and Eduardo Carlos rounded out the scoring for the minnows. Dortmund defender Felipe Santana scored the consolation goal as time ran out. But the story certainly was Hoffenheim, whose fairy tale start continues.
Stuttgart 3 Karlsruhe 1
German international Mario Gomez got the gamewinner in the 68th minute for Stuttgart who were playing their second straight regional derby. Karlsruhe got out of the blocks fast when Sebastian Freis headed his side into the lead at eight minutes.
Sami Khedira levelled a quarter hour later. Gomez was in a questionable offsides position to take Thomas Hitzlsperger’s lob pass before his goal but Ciprian Marica made that a moot point when he scored three minutes from time.
Saturday's matches
Bayern Munich 2 Werder Bremen 5
Bayern Munich were humiliated 5-2 on Saturday by Werder Bremen as the Bundesliga champions suffered one of their worst home defeats. Bremen's teenage sensation Oezil was the man of the match and involved in Bremens goals.
A well-timed pass from Oezil after half an hour split the Bayern defence and Rosenberg flicked the ball past Bayern goalkeeper Michael Rensing to put his side ahead.
On 45 minutes, Oezil floated his free-kick over the Bayern defence and Brazilian defender Naldo fired home from just metres out after Rensing blocked a shot to make it 2-0.
After the break, Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann brought Germany midfielder Tim Borowski and Italian defender Massimo Oddo into the fray. But it was soon 3-0 when Oezil unleashed a superb shot which beat Rensing at the near post on 54 minutes.
And Rensing's embarrassment was only heightened on 59 minutes
when Bremen's former Bayern striker Claudio Pizarro poked the ball under him to make it 4-0. Another Rensing mistake made it 5-0 when he tried to punch the ball away, but Rosenberg was on hand to stab the ball home.
Borowski pulled goals back on 71 and 85 minutes with two
well-taken strikes, but it was far too little, Munich lost their first competitive game under new coach Juergen Klinsmann
Bayerns next match is on Wednesday in the Cup against Nürnberg.
Schalke 1 Frankfurt 0
Schalke went top at least tillSunday thanks to an own goal at home to ten-man Eintracht Frankfurt.
Brazilian defender Chris was sent off on 34 minutes for hitting out at Germany defender Heiko Westermann and on 41 minutes, Frankfurt's misery was complete when Patrick Ochs slid the ball under his own goalkeeper. Incidentally, this was Frankfurt's 43rd own goal in Bundesliga history.
