Uwe and Simone Sutterer's business churns out 8,000 hats every year. Carnival celebrations mark the peak business season for the firm, which sells many of its hats to carnival associations. The Sutterers also produce resplendent ladies' hats for going to the races, as well as traditional local headwear.

After World War II, Germany was home to more than a hundred hat-making companies. Nowadays, the Sutterers' family business in southwestern Germany is one of the last four big hat producers in the country. The company's specialty work has been its recipe for success all these years: producing individual hats made-to-order.
