J.K. Rowling has wowed readers for years with her best-selling "Harry Potter" novels - and Germans are no exception. "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" led 2016 in selling the greatest number of copies in Germany.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," published unter the title "Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind," is the official script book for the eponymous stage play by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne. The book in German grabbed the biggest sales in literature Germany this year, with the English original coming in third, GfK Entertainment, a media sales analysis company, announced on Wednesday.
This is the sixth top-seller for Rowling in Germany. It is the eighth story in the "Harry Potter" series and depicts the character as an older, tired employee of the Ministry of Magic. Harry must also now contend with being the father of three children in school, particularly grappling with the struggles of his youngest, Albus, and the family legacy.
The play itself has been running in London since the end of July.
Another British author a top-seller
Another British author to top the German charts is Jojo Moyes, with her works "Über uns der Himmel, unter uns das Meer" (English original: "The Ship of Brides" ), which took second place, and "Ein ganzes halbes Jahr" ("Me Before You" in English), that garnered fourth place.

Newt Scamander, the main character played by Eddie Redmayne, is a "magizoologist." He's afraid of wizards and especially of humans. He understands the magical creatures he is studying a lot better. A series of five "Fantastic Beasts" films will center on this character.
In the 1920s, Newt Scamander is traveling around the world to explore magical creatures. An unfortunate incident makes him stay longer than planned in New York, where he was only supposed to stop over. The fantastic beasts Scamander was carrying in his suitcase manage to escape and destroy the city.
For his serious offense, Newt Scamander is prosecuted by the Magical Congress of the United States of America. He is questioned by the Auror Percival Graves, played by Colin Farrell.
While trying to recover his fantastic beasts, Newt Scamander meets Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston). As expected from a good blockbuster, the sparks from their magic wands aren't the only ones that fly...
Newt Scamander appears in the stories of Harry Potter as the author of a school book on fantastic beasts. J.K. Rowling published the book under Scamander's pseudonym. It includes different notes that Harry Potter scribbled into it while studying it.
