Heidi Klum to Co-Present Groups Drawing

August 6, 2005

There may be plenty to complain about German soccer on the field, but the 2006 World Cup organizers have made sure it will have a pretty face when it allots the tournament's group designations in Leipzig on Dec. 9. If everything goes according to German public broadcaster ARD's plan, model Heidi Klum will co-host the broadcast with sports moderator Reinhold Beckmann in front of a live audience of 5,000 and soccer fans eager to find out who their favorite team will face in next summer's tournament. The broadcaster is fulfilling a request from soccer's world governing body, FIFA, to have an "internationally well-known face" in addition to a sportscaster present the drawing results. But the ARD's full-time World Cup moderating duo of Gerhard Delling and ex-German national team member Günter Netzer won't need to get worried about their jobs yet. Klum has a contract with the German private television station ProSieben that prevents her from anything more than a one-time event.
