Helping humans while saving snakes in Kerala

Kerala is home to four of the world's deadliest snakes, and the rainy season often brings them out. Human fatalities used to be common. But an app has brought change.

In southern India, Kerala's snake crisis is growing as monsoon floods and shrinking habitats drive dangerous reptiles closer to people's homes. Fatal bites remain common, but trained volunteers from the SARPA rescue network are helping to change that.

Using a mobile app, they've saved tens of thousands of snakes — and, in the process, lives — while teaching communities how to coexist safely with these vital creatures.
