Israel's military says it has killed Hezbollah's top military official in a strike in the southern suburbs of Beirut. The attack is the first in the Lebanese capital in months and comes despite a US-brokered truce a year ago. Lebanon's Health Ministry said the strike killed five people and wounded a further 28.

Israel has carried out a precision airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut, its first in months, killing Hezbollah's top military commander Haytham Tabtabai. The Iran-backed group warned the attack could trigger escalation, nearly a year after a ceasefire.

Israel has accused Hezbollah of rearming, and has urge the government in Lebanonto disarm the group. Lebanon's president has called for international intervention as UN figures show over 100 civilian deaths since the truce almost a year ago.
