Holger Badstuber has his sights set on Euro 2016 in France after returning from injury over the weekend, the 26-year-old said in an interview with German television station Sport1.

"First off I want to stay healthy, return to the top level and have fun playing the game," Badstuber said. "My hunger for titles has not disappeared during my period of injury. I am very hungry."

"I can foresee myself playing a part in the European Championships. Why not?" Badstuber continued. "I have no fear, no pain. [My fitness] will progress and hopefully at a good pace."

Badstuber returned to the German national team for the first time in two-and-a-half years last March, starting for the 2014 World Cup champions in a friendly against Australia. The Bayern Munich defender went on to miss over six months with a thigh injury and Joachim Löw left him off the national team roster that is set to play friendlies against France and the Netherland.

His return for Bayern came in the club's 4-0 win against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. The Allianz Arena crowd gave him a huge ovation as he came on to replace Thomas Müller in the second half.

"The moment was indescribable because it was unbelievable. I was full of emotion, felt pure joy. Of course one needs to quickly swallow it," Badstuber said.

Germany trying to find Neuer's back-up

Four goalkeepers made head coach Joachim Löw's team for Germany's friendlies against France and the Netherlands this week. Löw can only play one goalkeeper at a time of course, but goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke revealed Germany's intentions with the goalkeeping position in a press conference on Wednesday.

We want to see the lads in training. There is huge competition to become Manuel Neuer's back up - no question," Köpke said. "I want to speak with all of them and see how they perform. Now is more or less the last chance for them to make a strong case for themselves. We have to make the most of the time we have now and then look to make the right decision for the Championship."

Neuer is the most prominent of the goalkeepers on the list, which includes Bayer Leverkusen's Bernd Leno, Paris Saint-Germain's Kevin Trapp and Hannover 96's Ron-Robert Zieler. Neuer has requested to play against France, and it appears he will get his wish.

"That's the plan," said Köpke. "Manuel will play in France. Then when we play the Netherlands in Hannover we'll have to see who plays in goal for us."

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is also in the Germany camp despite his name omitted from the squad list Germany revealed last week. Köpke said ter Stegen had a tooth operation that will remove him from selection for the two friendlies.
