Canada's Supreme Court refused Thursday to hear an appeal from German Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel, who faces deportation to Germany. The nation's highest court dismissed his appeal, which had sought to force the government to release secret documents behind its decision to declare him a national security threat. His case remains before the Federal Court in Toronto, which is reviewing the secret documents, among other issues. Zundel, considered by Jewish organization B'nai Brith to be one of the world's leading publishers of anti-Semitic and neo-Nazi material, has been detained since February 19, 2003, after he was forced out of the United States for overstaying a visitor's visa. Before going to the United States, Zundel, a 65-year-old German national, had lived in Canada since 1958 until shortly before a ruling by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in January 2002 that found him guilty of promoting hate on his Internet site. He is wanted in Germany on charges of inciting hatred against Jews.(AFP)
