German soccer legend Franz Beckenbauer could face victory on home turf now that the UEFA European soccer association has decided to hold its 2007 congress in Düsseldorf. The 60-year old is, along with France's Michel Platini, one of the contenders for UEFA's presidency when Sweden's Lennart Johansson steps down after 17 years at the organization's helm. The decision to hold the congress in Düsseldorf is something of a consolation prize for Düsseldorf which will not host any World Cup matches when the soccer tournament is played in Germany in 2006.
