Heavy rain has triggered Hong Kong's highest alert, the "black" rainstorm warning. Parts of the city are at a standstill, with more floods and transport chaos expected.

Hong Kong is grappling with its worst rainstorm in over 140 years, leaving streets flooded and daily life disrupted. The city has issued its highest-tier rainstorm warning four times in just over a week, halting schools, straining hospital services, and forcing residents into shelters. Similar extreme weather has hit other Chinese regions, including deadly floods in Beijing. Experts link the surge in severe weather to climate change, with China’s high greenhouse gas emissions intensifying the crisis.
