In Nairobi's Kibera district, a board game is helping young people learn about sustainability, waste, and teamwork — all through play.

In Nairobi’s Kibera slum, a recycling board game is changing how locals manage waste. Created by environmentalist Sam Dindi, the game teaches circular economy principles through fun, rewards, and education. Garbage collector Ibrahim Doka and youth-led group Greenshift for Development are turning plastic waste into paving stones and game mats. With rising demand for recycled PET bottles and support from the national environment authority, the initiative boosts sustainability, income, and environmental awareness – showing that gamificationcan drive real change in urban waste management.
