How do Bulgarians feel about possibly joining the eurozone?

Bulgaria, the poorest member state of the European Union, may adopt the euro on January 1, 2026. But is the country ready for the euro? And are Bulgarians ready to give up the lev as their currency?

Bulgaria is in the final stages of preparations for joining the eurozone.

The European Commission is expected to publish a report in the coming months, outlining whether the bloc's poorest member state will adopt the euro on January 1, 2026.

It would be a big change for the southeastern European country. DW asked Bulgarians whether they feel the country is ready for the new currency and whether they think adopting the euro is a good idea.
