Hot weather can cause serious medical problems -- even death. Heat exhaustion is a relatively common reaction to severe heat and can include symptoms such as dizziness, headache and fainting. It can also lead to a heat stroke, which requires medical attention. Heat stress is especially harmful for people suffering from several diseases such as coronary heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. But other people should be careful as well, and not return to physical activity for a few hours, because serious conditions could develop. Still, we can do many things to protect ourselves from the dangers of extreme heat. We should stay out of the sun, drink lots of water and wear light clothing.
