One of Germany's most influential and important voices has fallen silent: Jürgen Habermas has died at the age of 96.

Jürgen Habermas, one of Germany’s most influential contemporary philosophers, shaped global debates with his belief in reason rooted in everyday communication. Growing up under Nazism, he later challenged authoritarianism, supported democratic protest, and criticized nationalism, German reunification and rising right‑wing politics. His works on the public sphere and communicative action remain globally influential.
