Hungary's incoming Prime Minister Peter Magyar vows to crack down on cronyism and corruption. However, dismantling the apparatus of state put in place by Viktor Orban's regime is likely to prove a significant challenge.

Hungary's long‑time leader Viktor Orban has lost the election, but is his influence really over? Orban reshaped the state during 16 years in power, placing allies in the courts, prosecutor’s office, presidency and much of the media. Despite a strong mandate, incoming leader Peter Magyar faces major obstacles dismantling a system designed to outlast Orban.
