Electric vehicles are gaining traction in Pakistan — but not without challenges. With extreme air pollution and soaring fuel prices, the case for EVs is strong.

Now, Chinese auto giant BYD has entered the market, showcasing luxury electric cars in Karachi. However, hefty price tags and limited infrastructure mean EVs remain out of reach for most.

Local production of electric rickshaws and motorcycles is underway, and government targets aim for 30% EV sales by 2030. But can Pakistan’s energy mix and charging network keep pace with demand?
