Some passengers aren't just along for the ride — and can have a huge influence on their driver! Plus: the new Kia Sportage gets more than a facelift.

Passengers play a bigger role in road safety than most realize. From calming nerves to triggering risky behavior, their influence is significant. Young male drivers with men their own age face higher crash risks, while female passengers often reduce them. Peer pressure, what psychologists call “inattentional blindness”, and bravado can lead to chaos. But trust, communication, and a responsible co-driver can turn any ride into a safer journey. The right passenger can prevent disaster – or double the danger.
REV also looks at the fifth generation of the Kia Sportage: with bold design, hybrid and plug-in options, smart tech, and flexible drivetrains. Spacious, well-equipped, and reasonably priced, it’s a strong SUV contender – but is it as sporty as its name suggests?
