Right-wing populist politicians portray London as a lawless place full of violence. But how dangerous is the city really? A nighttime tour paints a different picture.

Is London  becoming unsafe after dark? DW follows the volunteer group Night Stars as they help partygoers, especially women, get home safely. While right-wing politicians warn of a "lawless London," official data shows serious violent crime and homicides are at decade lows. Though theft is rising, with more than 70,000 phone thefts recorded in 2025. Police crackdowns, new funding and extra officers aim to boost security — but experts warn resources may be stretched elsewhere.
