Three years after October 7, expert Daniel Gerlach assesses how the Hamas-led terror attacks and the Gaza war reshaped the Middle East, affecting Israel, Iran, Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group and the Gulf states.

After the Hamas terror attack in October 7, 2023, Israel launched a massive military offensive in Gaza.

The war has left most of the Strip in ruins and killed more than 74,200 people according to Gaza's Health Ministry — numbers the UN agrees are accurate.

In the last three years, Israel has also expanded its military operations across the Middle East, fighting on several fronts.

Middle East expert Daniel Gerlach speaks with DW about how October 7, 2023, marked a turning point for the entire region.
