Far-right parties are on the rise in many countries, and now it’s Australia’s turn. The far-right anti-migrant, populist One Nation party is surging in the opinion polls.

She ran a fish and chip shop and was once jailed before having her conviction quashed. Now Pauline Hanson and her anti-migrant, populist One Nation Party are leading the polls in Australia, overtaking even the  Labour Party.

How did a woman long dismissed as a fringe joke become the most disruptive force in Australian politics?

DW spoke with populism expert Benjamin Moffitt from Monash University, who says what's happening in Australia is part of a global pattern, but is moving faster than almost anywhere else.
