We're off to Kinshasa in the DRC, where a bold creative is building a comic scene from scratch. He's also opening the doors for the new wave of storytellers. Meet Gloria Muluku.

Across Africa, comics are having a moment. From Lagos to Nairobi, comic cons have taken root, and stories rooted in African themes and heroes are reaching global audiences. The DRC has its own comics tradition stretching back to the 1950s - but production remains thin and distribution thinner. A new generation of Congolese artists is now pushing to change that.

Gloria Muluku’s GLOREcomics organized workshops as part of the “Linzaka” comics initiative in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Kinshasa and Mikael Ross; initiatives like these aim to provide this new generation of Congolese comic artists with a solid foundation on which to build.
