New bill in Ghana criminalizes LGBTQ+ activity

The legislation aims to punish LGBTQ+ community members, as well as organizations accused of promoting or supporting same-sex related activities. Many in the community say they are facing threats and living in fear.

Fear is mounting among Ghana's LGBTQ+ community after parliament passed a bill that could jail individuals for up to three years and penalize supporters.

Activist Stephen says daily life is now filled with anxiety over safety and discrimination. The law could compel citizens to report LGBTQ+ people, raising concerns among rights groups about democratic backsliding.

While it still awaits presidential assent, some are already considering going into hiding or fleeing.
