What would happen if Russia attacked a NATO member? The German military has drawn up a secret defense plan, mapping out Gerrmany's role in case of such an event. It shows how civil and military actors would cooperate.

At the end of September, the German Bundeswehr held its biggest such civil-military drill in the northern city of Hamburg: Red Storm Charlie. With the number of hybrid attacks against NATO on the rise, what could Germany's role defending the military alliance be? DW spoke to Aylin Matl, a security expert at the German Council on Foreign Relations and with Bundeswehr researcher Marcel Bohnert.
