Immigration in Germany - The statistics

In 2013, immigration to Germany was at the highest level in 20 years. More than 1,226,000 foreigners came to Germany, most of them to find work. Many come from southern Europe, where youth unemployment is approaching 50 percent in some areas.

For their countries of origin, the wave of emigration can be a brain drain. But these countries also stand to benefit when highly-trained workers return home again.
