The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention warns this strain of the Ebola virus may be the worst on record. There is no vaccine, and misinformation is rampant, as many people simply do not believe Ebola is real.

Friends and relatives of an Ebola victim in eastern DR Congo clashed with police and health workers, seizing a highly contagious body from its coffin amid tear gas and gunfire before a controlled burial.

The incident underscores deep mistrust, with up to a third of the population denying Ebola's existence.

Journalists, fact-checkers and community leaders are battling misinformation, even as survivors urge communities to take the deadly outbreak seriously.
