In Picasso’s Footsteps
October 10, 2013 Picasso was born in southern Spain, and harbored a life-long love of the Mediterranean. He turned his back on his home in the early 20th century, falling in love with the South of France on frequent visits and summer sojourns. He bought his first house there in 1945, and three years later, moved his main place of residence from Paris to the Côte d’Azur and Provence. For the next 25 years, the South of France served as the backdrop to his life and work.
The region exerted a key influence on his oeuvre – especially his favorite haunts of Vallauris, Mougins, Aix en Provence and Ménerbes. Our documentary charts the most important phases in Picasso’s life in the South of France, while experts, friends, acquaintances and work associates talk about their encounters with Picasso. The anniversary of his death has been marked with a number of exciting events and special exhibitions.
