Delhi's driving bans and vehicle scrappage policies are under fire for being unfair. One cost-effective alternative is to convert diesel trucks and conventional vehicles to run on electricity.

Could retrofitting old diesel trucks and cars be a game-changer in India’s drive for clean transport and better air quality?

IX Energy, near Delhi, is one company converting conventional vehicles into zero-emission electric trucks by replacing combustion engines with electric modules. The approach is up to 40% cheaper than buying new EVs and extends vehicle life significantly.

With over 15 million vehicles in the capital alone and air pollution at crisis levels, retrofitting could be a scalable solution to cut CO2 emissions. Yet, limited incentives and infrastructure slow progress towards more e-mobility.
