German computer chip makers Infineon's Munich-Perlach plant is set for closure. After Erfurt semiconductor producer X-Fab decided on Wednesday not to buy the ageing computer chip plant, Infineon announced it would close the factory by the beginning of 2007, as had been originally planned. The majority of the 800-strong workforce will lose their jobs. Infineon had said at the end of February that it planned to shut down the site by 2007. Only "a small number" of the people who worked at Perlach would be offered jobs at other Infineon sites, a spokesman for the semi-conductors giant said.
