There are many ways to increase the fuel efficiency of a vehicle. Hybrid vehicles use additional electric motors reduce fuel consumption. Downsizing is building smaller engines that deliver the same performance with less fuel.

At Mercedes, engineers have been working to make even larger engines more efficient. The result is the Blue Efficiency line, which combines reduced vehicle weight, improved aerodynamics and a host of engine modifications to deliver excellent fuel economy. The E350 sedan, for instance, consumes just 6.8 liters per 100 kilometers driven.
