Investigation Launched Into Lahore Attack

04/03/09March 4, 2009

In Pakistan, an investigation into Tuesday’s attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore is underway. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told the media in Islamabad that the authorities had "important leads" as to who could be behind the attack. The police has already rounded up scores of people for questioning in connection with the attack. On Wednesday, the government of Punjab province offered a reward of 100,000 euros for any information leading to the capture of those responsible. The Sri Lankan team was on its way to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore when it was attacked by unknown gunmen. This latest terrorist attack has once again raised concern about the security situation in Pakistan.

The attack left 6 policemen and one civilian dead; 6 players, their coach and an umpire were injured
