Iran: A look at the levers of government in Iran

As we heard there, the protests have even prompted a rare stumble by the man at the pinnacle of power in Iran. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rarely wields his authority publicly, but he controls the military, the judiciary and the public media. His immediate and unequivocal certification of the election was an unusual move, but even rarer was the subsequent climb down, when the Guardian Council acknowledged the result as provisional and said it will be reviewed. More than half the council members are appointed by Khamenei, so its decision will hardly come as a surprise to him. Here's a look at the levers of government in Iran.
