Energy from sea tides is currently expensive. But cutting-edge turbines are now delivering a reliable source of energy from the North Sea. Will the once-niche technology become an economic game changer?

Although tidal electricity currently costs significantly more than wind or solar power, long-term turbine performance, low maintenance needs and predictable energy generation from ocean currents make it an attractive investment. Pilot projects have already generated enough clean energy to power thousands of homes, proving the technology's feasibility.

However, scaling tidal power requires substantial upfront investment, supportive government policies and suitable coastal conditions. Further research and expansion will determine whether tidal power can become a mainstream contributor to the global renewable energy mix.
