Opposition leaders arrested. Election petitions blocked. Zambia's government says democracy is intact, but critics disagree. We ask UPND's Elvis Nkandu: What's really happening in Zambia after the 2026 election?

Zambia's political landscape remains deeply divided following the August 13 election. Opposition leader Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu have been charged with treason after challenging the results. Mundubile's bid to contest the outcome was also halted when courts closed ahead of the filing deadline.

So what is really happening in Zambia after the 2026 election? Under The Baobab sits down with UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu to discuss the arrests, the allegations, and the future of democracy under President Hakainde Hichilema.
