Israel seizes strategic castle in Lebanon in deep incursion

Israeli forces have seized Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, their deepest advance in more than 25 years. Fighting with Hezbollah continues despite a fragile ceasefire.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israeli forces to expand military operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The capture of Beaufort Castle marks a major development in the latest Israel-Hezbollah conflict, which began on March 2, after Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel — two days after US and Israeli strikes on its main backer, Iran.
