Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire near a checkpoint in Hebron, injuring five Israelis—two critically—before being killed in an exchange of gunfire with Israeli forces. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a cordon around Hebron and preparations for a full closure of the occupied West Bank, while suspending election campaign events for the day.
Opposition candidate Benny Gantz also commended the troops, noting the operation averted a major attack as political leaders react ahead of the upcoming election.
