Israel said the ships were safely stopped and their passengers transferred to Israel. The detained activists said their vessels were seized illegally in international waters. The crews of several other boats in the flotilla plan to continue their journey to Gaza.

Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla en route to Gaza, detaining activists aboard several vessels. The flotilla, carrying 500 people on more than 40 boats, aimed to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel's blockade. Israeldefended its action as enforcing a lawful blockade, while flotilla organizers and several governments condemned it as illegal and dangerous.
