L'eroica is a 200km period bike rally in Gaiole, Chianti, complete with vintage costumes. In early October, the race took place for the eleventh time. Compared to today's high-tech bikes, the clunky bicycles are far from easy to manouevre down the set of dirt road courses, but the point is to uphold tradition not break records. Accordingly, the cyclists are given salami, white bread and Tuscan vegetable soup as sustenance, washed down with plenty of Chianti.
