Gorgona Island, off the coast of Tuscany, isn't your typical prison. Here, inmates make wine and learn responsibility.

On Gorgona, the last prison island in Italy, inmates live and work under unique conditions. Instead of isolation, they earn wages, care for animals and produce wine. The prison emphasizes trust, responsibility and rehabilitation.

Though still a place of confinement, Gorgona offers many a rare chance at transformation — and a future beyond bars.
