Last week a key aide of the DPJ leader Ichiro Ozawa was arrested for allegedly taking millions of dollars in illegal donations from private companies.

Since then, Ozawa has been also facing mounting pressure to step down.

He denies the charges, saying they are politically motivated.

Ozawa has been tipped as top contender for the prime ministerial post in the elections later this year.
