Japan's Parliament Reopens Amid Tension

05/01/09January 5, 2009

In Japan, hundreds of jobless people marched to the parliament on Monday demanding work and housing. The rally came as the parliament had convened for a new session, in which Prime Minister Taro Aso's ruling bloc introduced a supplementary budget worth 4.8 trillion yen (ca. 38 billion euros) to revive the recession-hit economy. The measure came as the PM faces mounting calls from the opposition to call snap polls over his handling of the economy.
