Japan needs a new leader after Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resigned last month. The two frontrunners are Sanae Takaichi, who would be Japan's first female prime minister, and Shinjiro Koizumi, who would be its youngest leader since World War Two.

Japan's ruling party faces a leadership shake-up after losing its parliamentary majority and public trust.

Two candidates — reformist Shinjiro Koizumi and nationalist Sanae Takaichi — offer starkly different visions for the country's future.

As voters grow weary of stagnant politics and rising economic pressures, the LDP must choose a leader who can restore confidence and steer Japan through regional uncertainty.
